1) Go to www.framesbymail.com.
Clicking the link will take you to the site in a new window.
2) Select the "Wood Frames" or "Metal Frames" tab at the top. Then select a catagory.
3) Choose a "profile". Then select "with mat" or "without mat". If you choose "without mat", all you do next is select the frame dimensions to match the size of the print (i.e., image + built in border). If you need a mat, go to the next step.
4) You will first need to enter the window opening dimensions. To find out what they are, just subtract 2X the recommended mat width from each FRAME dimension.
Window width = Frame width - (mat width X 2)
Window heighth = Frame heighth - (mat width X 2)
Example: Suppose you want to order a custom 26 X 36 frame and a 2" mat. Two times the mat width is 4", so your window opening would be 22 X 32 or (26-4 by 36 - 4).
Note: Your image size will be smaller than the window opening if you follow our recommendations. All prints have a 1-1/2" border around the image. After taping the image to the mat (on the back side, of course) with masking tape, your piece will have a classy double-matted look because there will generally be about a 1" border between the image and the mat.
A word of caution: if you decide to change the mat width significantly, the aspect ratio of the window opening and the image itself will no longer match perfectly. In other words, the horizontal borders around the image will not be the same width as the vertical borders. For information about customizing your border, mat, and frame dimensions, click here.
5) After entering your window dimensions, scroll down to the "outside mat" fields and enter the suggested mat width for all dimensions required.
(The mat widths recommended on this site are the same for all sides.)
Now look at the filled-in frame dimensions in the left margin. See, just what we expected! The frame dimensions should match the dimensions of the recommended frame size. If not, you may want to double-check the math.
6) Finally, make sure you've picked the colors that you want for both
the mat and frame.
7) Submit your order. It is so easy! |
